Councillor Call for Action
Councillor Call for Action (CCfA) is a power introduced by the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 which enables councillors to act on behalf of residents to resolve local issues of concern.
CCfA is meant only to be used as a last resort when all other ways of resolving an issue have been explored.
When a CCfA is raised, a report on the issue is submitted to the Scrutiny Sub-Committee. The Sub-Committee then decide whether to accept the CCfA as a matter that needs further investigation.
If the CCfA is accepted, it is referred to a future meeting of the Sub-Committee and the relevant council officers and partners are invited to attend. Once all the evidence has been heard, the Sub-Committee may wish to make recommendations to the Executive if the issue relates to a council function or to the relevant partner organisation.
Both the Executive and partner organisations are required to respond to any recommendations made and the Sub-Committee monitor the outcome of these recommendations to establish the success of the CCfA.
More information on CCfA and the process followed at Canterbury can be found in the Scrutiny Guide on the downloads page.
