Past Reviews
Travel Plan

There is a recognised problem with congestion in the Canterbury area, and the council as a major employer in the area was conscious of the fact that its own staff contribute to this congestion.
The main objectives of the review were to:
- Reduce traffic congestion in Canterbury
- Reduce parking pressures at Canterbury City Council offices
- Improve travel choices
- Set a good example to other organisations
The review looked into the commuting habits of council employees and identified opportunities for reducing traffic congestion. Council employees and other employers/employees in the area were consulted, and the results of the survey were used to implement an action plan to reduce the impact of council employees commuting to work, or on council business.
Planning Enforcement
Planning enforcement plays an important part in the planning process, crucial to managing development and protecting the natural and built environment. The review focused on the efficiency and effectiveness of the work of the Enforcement Team, to see if improvements could be made in their methods and performance, and how to raise the profile of their work.
Community Safety
This review panel looked at all the issues surrounding community safety, the expanding role of councils in this field and how the city council responds to local needs. The review involved community groups from Herne Bay, Whitstable, and Canterbury to gather public opinion on this subject, and visits to the Public Safety Unit.
