Whistable Harbour Board Canterbury City Council

A scrutiny panel have recently taken an in-depth look at how the Whitstable Harbour Board is run.  The Whitstable Harbour Board was established eight years ago as a committee of the city council comprising elected city councillors and co-opted independent members.  The review investigated whether a Harbour Board was still the best way to govern the harbour over the next few years or whether alternative arrangements could be more appropriate or effective.

The Panel found the Harbour Board was still effective but made a series of recommendations for how it could be improved.

A scrutiny panel assessed the current provision of leisure facilities across the district.  The panel examined the council's role in delivering leisure and how this fits with private sector provision across the district. They also looked at how the current model for providing leisure services fits with the budgetary trends the council faces and the impact of the current economic climate.  The Panel's report sets out options for the delivery of the council's lesire objectives in the future.
