Reviews from the Year 2008-2009

Rural Transport

rural transportA Panel of councillors was tasked with looking at whether there were viable options available for improving rural transport across the district.

Their review focussed particularly on:

  • Whether transport to and from rural areas was sufficient in terms of route timings and weekend transport.
  • The needs of key users such as children, hospital patients, visitors and shoppers.
  • The clarity of information available on transport to rural areas.

The Panels findings are set out in their report of March 2009.

Beach Huts Review

beach huts reviewScrutiny has been looking into the Beach Hut service. Beach huts are an integral part of the character of our seaside towns. There are many concerns surrounding the service: the licensing system currently in place, meeting the demands of prospective users, and identify potential growth in the service.

The review hopes to develop a strategy for developing the service over the next 5 years, and seek to clarify how best to provide the service.

Debt Counselling

westgate reviewThe aim of the review was to look at the debt counselling services available in the district and nationally and establish if the council could be doing more to help people access the advice services they need. The Panel made a series of recommendations intended to ensure the council identifies potential debtors at the earliest opportunity, that people receive advice from the appropriate agency and that a strategy is developed to tackle financial exclusion across the district.
