Reviews from the Year 2007-2008
Highways:
The task of the project is to look at the highway maintenance arrangements pre and post April 2005, when responsibility reverted back to Kent County Council. There was a concern that since the transfer there has been a change in the level of service for our district, and that the current arrangements has meant that the service had become less responsive to the needs of the district, and this may affect the Council’s strategic regeneration projects.
The review found that the change had affected lines of communication in some areas, with the relocation of highways services to distant sites hindering correspondence between district and county transport officers, and weaken the partnership arrangements over development projects that were a strong feature of the relationship up until 2005.

Increasing public involvement
We want to increase public involvement in the scrutiny function during the coming year. There are several ways in which the public can become involved.
They are:
- By proposing a topic for a scrutiny review either by contacting their councillor or contacting the Scrutiny team on 01227 862 332.
- By attending Overview and Scrutiny committee meetings – details of upcoming meetings are available on the council website www.canterbury.gov.uk or by contacting the Committee section on 01227 862 006 or 01227 862 005.
- By making their views known on scrutiny review topics. The upcoming reviews are described above – if you would like to contribute your views please contact the Scrutiny team on 01227 862 332.
