Reviews from the Year 2005-2006

Approach to Travellers

Often the main contact between the council and the travelling community is through the planning system over the issue of illegal encampments. The review panel is determined to look beyond these issues with a view to improving the council’s work with traveller families. We hope to generate more understanding between our settled and travelling communities.

Taxi Operations

Numerous concerns have been raised over the operation of taxis in Canterbury. Some taxi drivers have asked the council to provide more taxi ranks - particularly in Canterbury City Centre. The panel will be examining a variety of issues such as; whether the existing rank provision is adequate and located in the right place, and the availability of taxis during peek and slack periods.
